MALIKA SURF CAMP DAKAR

MALIKA SURF CAMP LEILA BOULARBAH BLOGGER FAMOUS SURFER SPOT SENEGAL DAKAR ARAB GIRL WOMAN

I’VE BEEN WANTING TO TAKE SURFING LESSONS FOR THE LONGEST TIME, BUT UNFORTUNATELY NEVER LIVED IN A COASTAL CITY, UNTIL NOW. A FRIEND AND I WENT TO MALIKA SURF CAMP IN YOFF, DAKAR. IT IS QUITE FAR TO BE HONEST, SPECIALLY WITH THE CRAZY TRAFFIC; IT TOOK US AN HOUR TO GET THERE!

THE CAMP PRICES AND ACCOMODATIONS:

THE CAMP HAS GROUP LESSONS TWICE A DAY: 11AM AND 3PM, BUT THEY ALSO OFFER PRIVATE LESSONS. THE GROUP ONES ARE 12.000 FCFA /CLASS WHILE THE PRIVATE ONES ARE 20.000 FCFA /PERSON. THE BOARD AND WETSUIT ARE INCLUDED. YOU CAN ALSO TAKE YOGA AND BEACH-VOLLEY CLASSES.

THE LESSON:

WE HAD OUR FIRST LESSON WITH AZIZ, WHO WAS VERY PATIENT AND KIND. WE WERE LUCKY THE WEATHER WAS AMAZING, NOT TOO WINDY, AND THE BEACH WAS ALMOST EMPTY. THE LESSON STARTED WITH US STRETCHING AND RUNNING A LITTLE, AZIZ THEN SHOWED US THE BASICS: HOW TO LAY/STAND ON THE BOARD, RIDE THE WAVES… AND WE FINALLY GOT INTO THE WATER WHERE WE REALISED THAT IT’S EASIER SAID THAN DONE 😂

THE LESSON IS AN HOUR AND HALF LONG, WHICH IS QUITE LONG AND TIRING WHEN YOU HAVEN’T WORKED OUT IN A WHILE (WHICH WAS MY CASE). I STILL COULDN’T STAND ON THE BOARD BY THE END OF THE LESSON BUT I REALLY ENJOYED IT.

NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS SORE WHEN I GOT HOME. I STILL WENT BACK A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER BUT IT WASN’T AS FUN, AZIZ WASN’T AVAILABLE AND IT WAS TOO WINDY.

I WILL PROBABLY STILL GO BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO LEARN SURFING. AND I STILL RECOMMEND MALIKA SURF CAMP, I’LL JUST MAKE SURE I CHECK THE WEATHER BEFORE  !

I WILL ALSO CHECK OTHER SURFING SPOTS IN DAKAR TO SEE WHICH ONE I LIKE BEST AND HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO SURF BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
